Why not?
It seems like an odd reason to publish something but these short stories were literally lying around doing nothing, so I thought why not?
When I stopped writing for television, my first experiments with prose writing were short stories, some of which are in this collection. The title comes from the fact that a few of the stories were also experiments that might have turned into novels but in the end were probably better off as brief sketches.
Anyway, they were all enjoyable to write so I hope some of that enjoyment is transmitted from the page. This is the cover blurb:
A boy learns that growing up is painful, an elderly woman regrets her choice in life, a middle-aged man gets love wrong. Elsewhere, a young husband is so obsessed with symbols that he forgets to look after what really matters, a magician has a strange encounter with Aleister Crowley, a TV star rescues his failing career in the most daring and public way possible – cheating death in the process – and a stand-up comedian discovers that murder has its uses. There are some parables too: one for our phone-obsessed times and another on the birth of God. And is running the new religion?
And that’s just 9 of them — pointless to describe all 16, you’ll just have to dip into it to find out about the others. Here’s the link to the Amazon page: OFFCUTS
